Kermit Clarence Lundquist Obituary

Kermit Lundquist, age 87, of Gary, SD, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD. Funeral service will be at 10:30am on Tuesday, October 12th at the East Highland Lutheran Church, rural Brandt, SD. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Monday, October 11th at the Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the East Highland Church Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements. Kermit Clarence Lundquist the 6th of seven children, was born January 16, 1934 to Clarence and Nellie (Riemers) Lundquist in O’Brien County, near Sutherland, Iowa. In January of 1935 he moved with his family to a farm near Lake Park, Iowa. He attended Excelsior country school and graduated in 1952. He worked on the family farm and for the neighbors for 2 years. In July of 1954, Kermit was married to Leanna Smith. To this marriage six children were born. He worked for different cattle breeders in the area and for a masonry contractor learning the masonry trade. In 1959, he moved to South Dakota in the Clear Lake and Gary area and worked on a ranch for four years and then for three different construction companies and started a small cattle operation. In 1972 he started his own masonry company. He joined East Highland Lutheran Church after moving to South Dakota and served on the council and as a deacon for many years. He helped start the Luther League of East Highland and Highland Church where he served as an adult leader for six years. He also helped start the Helping Hand 4-H Club and served as a leader for eleven years. He received honorary FFA Chapter Farmers. He helped start and organize Prairies Riders Saddle Club with activities of monthly trail rides, horse shows and competitive trail rides. Kermit enjoyed his masonry work, riding horses, working cattle, trapping, going on trips and listening and dancing to old country western music. Kermit is survived by his six children: Wayne (Peggy) Lundquist, Chamberlain, SD, Travis (Jeanette) Lundquist, Rapid City, SD, Jack (Denise) Lundquist, Watertown, SD Bruce (Deb) Lundquist, Polson, MT, Val Lundquist, Clear Lake, SD and Cindy Lundquist, Silverthorne, CO; 13 grandchildren and 20 plus great-grandchildren and two siblings, LaVonne Breckenridge and Ralph Lundquist; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; two older brothers and two older sisters and three nephews.
