Billy Atseriak

In the early hours of Thursday, September 30, 2021, Billy died peacefully in his home next to his wife Bessie, after suffering with declining health for several years. He is preceded in death by: Adam, Elizabeth, and Albert Atseriak, Charles Evans Joseph Hunter, John and Mary Friendly, Dan, Hilda and Kyle Wassillie. He was born to Adam Atseriak and Elizabeth Friendly, on June 2, 1944, in Quinhagak, Alaska. Mr. Atseriak is survived by his wife Bessie, brother Albert Atseriak, sister Emily Cleveland; three children: Oscar, Mary and Kathleen, 15 grandchildren: Isaiah, Adriana, Rayne, Jeremiah Jr., Qaiana, Natalia, Kyle, Elijah, Louis, Isabella, Kiera, Dana, Rachelle, Jackie, Amy, Naomi, and 4 great grand-children: Tyler, Adriana, Kyle and Davida. He enlisted in the Army as a Chemical Operations Specialist in February 1966. Billy served in Vietnam for 18 months from 1968-1969. His duty stations include Alabama, Germany, Vietnam and Alaska. He proudly served for 29 years ending his career as a rank of Major in the Alaska National Guard. He met his wife Bessie Wassillie, and married on April 17, 1977, at the Quinahagak Moravian Church. He will be missed by many, and his love and teachings will forever be in the hearts of those he touched.
