Frances D. Shepard Obituary

Frances D. Shepard, 98, of Parsons, died at 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor. She was born June 15, 1923, in the rural Altamont area, to James E. and Annie G. (Woolfolk) Poage. She grew up in that area and graduated from the Labette County High School at Altamont. On April 13, 1941 she and Chester E. Shepard were married at Labette City. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1984. Frances was employed at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center five years. After the death of her husband she worked in the bakery of a local supermarket. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parsons. Survivors are a daughter, Catherine Welden (Virgil) of Parsons; three granddaughters, Kim Welden of Los Angeles, CA, Tammy Welden of Conroe, TX and Gail Welden (Cecil Davidson) of Parsons. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Shepard, four brothers, Kenneth Poage, Howard Poage, Harold Poage and infant Thomas Poage and two sisters, Sylvia Gibson and Carol Autem. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, with the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Travis Ball will officiate and burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont. Friends may also call at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m., without the family being present. Memorials are suggested to the Parsons Presbyterian Manor Activity Fund. They may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
