Lisa Murphy Obituary

Passed peacefully away at home after a courageous battle with ALS on October 4, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, Lisa Murphy of Chamberlains (formerly of Job’s Cove) aged 45 years. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents: Catherine and Robert Murphy, maternal grandparents: Mildred and Max Johnson, special aunt: Theresa Murphy, and her beloved golden retriever: Abby. A wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, cousin, niece, and friend, Lisa touched the lives of those who knew and loved her. A devoted and loving mother, her greatest joy was her children and ensuring their happiness. A warm and caring person, she was a fantastic nurse who impacted the lives of those fortunate enough to have been cared for by or worked alongside her. When Lisa was diagnosed with ALS in April 2018, she did not let it define her. She fought bravely and remained active for as long as she possibly could. “Giving up is not an option” was a motto of hers. She had an incredible amount of support to help give her strength and remind her that she was not alone on her journey. The family will be forever grateful to her home support workers who helped to provide her with quality care and comfort. They helped her to maintain her dignity and her independence for as long as possible. Also, thank you to her team of health care providers from Eastern Health. Lisa is survived by her sons: Sean and Joshua; parents: Elizabeth ‘Betty’ and Patrick Murphy, Job’s Cove; sisters: Cathy (Bobby) Short, Broad Cove and Amanda Murphy, Chamberlains; nieces: Samantha and Rebecca Short; as well as a number of extended family, relatives, and friends. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Noel’s Funeral Home, Main Highway, Western Bay on Saturday, October 9th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in Noel’s Memorial Chapel, Western Bay. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the service will be by invitation only. A Facebook live stream will be available via a private group. Those wishing to be added are asked to contact Amanda or Cathy. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in Lisa’s memory may be made to the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (https://www.alsnl.ca/) or to any organization that supports animals in your local area. “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart…I’ll always be with you.” -A.A.Milne *****
