Weiland A Ross Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Weiland A Ross. Weiland passed away peacefully on the evening of October 2, 2021 at the age of 87. He was a beloved husband to his wife (Betty) who he married on February 10, 1962 ,a devoted father to his four children (Mary Ross, Kenny Ross (Nora), Cindy Bunting (Sean) and Patrick Ross (Kelly) and a loving grandfather to Madison, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Hayden and Garrett. He was pre-deceased by his brother Truman Ross. He is also survived by his sister Helen Nichols (John), his brother Russel Ross (Paula) and many nieces and nephews. Anyone who ever knew him will never forget his infectious passion for sharing his time. As a lifelong teacher and avid reader, he was always willing to share his knowledge.....and as a devoted family man and friend, he was always there with unconditional love and support for anyone who needed it. Through his knowledge and love, he forever touched the minds and hearts of many. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Weiland was proud to have graduated from the small Liberal Arts College- Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois where he received his foundation to become a History Teacher and coach for Cross Country and Track and Field in Emerson, NJ . With a Masters in Education he became an adjunct professor at Montclair State College. He and Betty retired to Vermont in 1996 settling down in the quiet town of Sunderland. In addition to his professional career as a teacher, his greatest passion was his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife (Canada, Alaska, many national parks, and countless weekend getaways) as well as casual time simply being together. In addition to holidays, he helped make every family gathering an occasion to be celebrated! He also enjoyed hiking, writing for a local paper, and learning about anything. He will be deeply missed, and cherished in our hearts forever. With his love of hiking he became an active member of the Green Mountain Club and Appalachian Trail Club. A private gathering will take place for Weiland in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Weiland's memory may be made to: St. Labre Indian School or the National Kidney Foundation in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
