Marjorie May Russell Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Mom, Marjorie May Russell (nee Fiske) of Swift Current, SK on Sunday, October 3, 2021, with her children by her side. Marj was born to Fred & Betty Fiske on May 6, 1936 in Tisdale, SK. She was raised on the family farm near Loreburn, SK and attended school in the district. After high school Mom moved to Saskatoon and then settled in Moose Jaw and began working as a telephone operator and then later at the Saskatchewan Training School. Marj married Al Russell February 7, 1959 in Moose Jaw, SK and they began their family. In 1974, Al and Marj and their five children moved onto the family homestead near Kelstern, SK. Besides taking care of her family and helping run the family farm, Mom spent many years working for home care and other businesses around Hodgeville. She was always there to help at the rink, ball diamonds or any other event hosted in town. In 1991 Al and Marj sold the family farm and retired to Hodgeville. They spent three years in town and in 1994 decided to start a new adventure as apartment managers in Swift Current. While managing apartments she continued to do home care and then began working at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge until retiring in 2005. In continuing with her love of helping others she volunteered for the MCC Thrift Store every Friday right up until she passed. Mom was selfless and spent her life helping and caring for anyone in need. She always enjoyed the company of others and loved card games, baking, doing puzzles and watching sports. She loved her card nights with her friends and monthly lunches with her birthday crew. Mom was happiest while surrounded by family and hosting family meals and attending any activity involving her grandchildren or great grandchildren. The look of pure joy on her face was evident every time she held one of her grandbabies. Our hearts are broken with the loss of this special lady but the love for family and friends she instilled in all of us will live on. Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jackie (Albert) Fischer, children; Michelle (Des) Boyd (Payton & Gavin), David (Candice) Fischer (Porter, Declan, Emmett, Nate), Erin (Jeremy) Lacelle (Rae, Finley); son Barry (Bernadette) Russell, children; Heather Russell (Jax), Greg Russell & Debbie Magastad (Claire), Cory (Rikki) Russell (Cohen, Nixon, Austin); daughter Dawn (Rob) Whiteside, children; Braxton & Dakota, daughter Sandi (Jason) Silzer, children; Rylan & Brenna, daughter Marcy (Trevor) Feicht, children; Dayne & Shaelyn and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Al, parents Fred & Betty, step-mom Martha, father & mother-in-law Jack and Agnes, step mother-in-law Mildred; great-grandsons, Jace & Vance; sisters, Fern & Kae, brothers; Burrel, Glen & Garry, sisters-in-law, Vida & Audrey and brothers-in-law, Don, Bob & Vern and many other dear family members. Our family wishes to thank the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital and Regina General for their care and concern for Mom this past week. They went above and beyond to make her last moments with us as special as possible and we will be forever grateful. A Private Family Celebration of Marj’s Life will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home facebook page. The service is also being recorded and will be posted for viewing on the website. Memorial donations may be made to STARS Saskatchewan or a charity of your choice on Mom’s behalf. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Piche-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels.
