Leda Eugenie Day Melfort, Saskatchewan Obituary

Leda Eugenie Day

Leda Eugenie Day (Havet) was born in Melfort on January 19, 1946 and lived in Whittome until moving to Star City at age 6. She attended school in Star City until she graduated in 1964. She prided herself on her good grades and involvement in school sports. After she graduated, she moved to Saskatoon and attended Robertson’s business school where she met and married the love of her life of 53 years, Richard Allan Day. In January 1972, they moved to Punnichy to purchase a home and start their family. They welcomed a daughter, Yvonne in 1975 and a son, Grant in 1978. Leda was always very involved in her children’s activities and the community. She volunteered for many committees. She could be found selling Girl Guide cookies or tying skates. If you needed someone, she stepped up to help up all while enjoying her own activities such as curling. In the fall of 1987, the family moved to the Melfort area and settled in Beatty. She again became very involved with the small community. She sat on town council and volunteered at the hall and rink. If you needed a pie for the fall supper or dishes washed, she was there to help out. Leda worked 17 years at the TD Canada Trust Bank in the Melfort Mall. She loved working with the people and her customers would often wait in line until she was available. She treated everyone like family. Leda was very active in the community and volunteered with the Parkland Place Auxiliary and would spend hours selling tickets at the cold four seasons arena flea market. It was something she believed in and supported as best that she could. Leda grew up afraid of water and as an adult learned to swim. She became very active with the Dolphins program at the Northern Lights Palace. She would volunteer to assist anyone that needed support and she led the aquatics program. You could find her in the pool almost everyday. Leda’s pride and joy came from her children and grandchildren. She and Al were blessed with three grandchildren. Dalton, Haley and Carter. She attended every activity that she could as they grew up. In 2019 her health was failing with her diagnosis of Parkinson’s, and she made the decision to move to Parkland Place. Many family and friends visited her and she always welcomed them. Thank you to the staff at the Melfort Hospital and Parkland Place for making Leda as comfortable as possible in her final days.
