Obituary

David “Gus” Nielsen
Joseph, Utah

David “Gus” Udell Nielsen, 45, passed away October 5, 2021 in Salt Lake City.  He was born September 14, 1976 in Richfield to Udell Joseph and Carole Jean Byers Nielsen.  He married Tracy Ann Newman on August 23, 2002 at Fish Lake Lodge. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on August 23, 2017, and their children were also sealed to them at that time.

Gus choose to be a father and a husband to Tracy and her two kids; and then added his own son.  He was so looking forward to his first grandchild coming in February.

His most prized possession, besides his family, was his truck “Purple” and his dad’s 30-0-6 rifle.

Every Christmas he would keep an eye out for those less fortunate than us and would help them out however and whenever he could. He would give you the shirt off his back.

Gus was known for being a huge car lover and enthusiast, especially Chevy’s. He would fix up and re-paint any car he could. He had a college degree in auto body repair.
He loved the outdoors and watching wildlife.  In fact, if Gus was given the choice, he would have lived up on Monroe Mountain.

Picture taking was one of his greatest hobbies.  Gus has taken thousands of pictures of wildlife and nature, cars, and of course family—anything of special interest to him.

Survived by his wife, Tracy; children: Krystal Linn Newman, Matthew John Newman, Brayker Chase Nielsen; his first grandchild is expected in February; brother: Larry Nielsen.

Preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Allen Nielsen; grandparents: Richard and Margarette Daggett Byers; Joseph and Laurel Torgensen Nielsen
