Mildred A Carter Obituary

Mildred A. Carter, 78, of East Boothbay passed away at her home on Linekin Bay on Sept. 19, 2021. She was the daughter of Earl and Vivian Fuller. Mildred was a beloved housewife, mother and grandmother. She attended East Boothbay elementary school. Many days after work she would go down the hill to work with her dad who ran the First National grocery store. She helped stock the shelves and sold candy. For years she took violin and oboe lessons and played in many recitals. While in high school, she was invited to play along with the Lincoln County Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Lipman. Also in high school, she played on the softball team, was an avid writer for the school paper, and won the prestigious Monday Club award. After graduation from high school, she traveled to New York City to attend Wilfred Academy of hair and beauty culture. She worked in the city for several years. During that time, one of her clients was one of the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. She was always proud of that. After three years, she returned to Boothbay where her boyfriend, Ralph Carter, was returning from a tour with the United States Navy. They married Oct. 3, 1964. Together, Ralph and Mildred built a home on Linekin Bay. They took over the property from the Fuller family, who ran a boatyard there for generations. Together they raised three children, Mark, Mathew and Victoria. Over the years, Mildred worked at Squirrel Island, Ocean Point Inn and Smuggler’s Cove Inn. Mildred had a love for the Lord and, as a child, attended East Boothbay Methodist Church. Later in life, she worshiped at both the Boothbay Baptist Church and the Community Fellowship. One of her favorite things to do during her daily routine was going to breakfast with her good friends at Baker’s Way. Many people commented that mom did not look or act ill. She said her secret was not to dwell on being ill and run your life accordingly — that is some old school toughness there. She swam in the ocean every summer, even taking a dip only a few weeks before she passed. When the time came, she said she was ready to go with Ralph “waiting in Heaven for her.” Her family was by her side for her final journey. Mildred will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Paulette; son Mathew; daughter Victoria; and sister Mary Numbers in California. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Garrett, Samantha, Howard and Scarlett. A joint service for Ralph and Mildred will be held this coming spring, time and date to be announced later.
