Donald W. Taylor Obituary

Don W. Taylor, age 89 of Tuscaloosa, passed away October 2, 2021 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Magnolia Chapel South at 2:00 pm with Rev. Brian Dowd, Rev. Kevin Dillard, and Rev. Mike Jack officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm before the service.

He is preceded in death by his parents; T.D. and Mattie Belle Taylor, brothers; Calvin, Benny and Jack Taylor, sisters; Nadine Stevenson and Sharla Shurstedt.

He is survived by his wife Zelma Catherine Taylor, daughter; Kay Handley (Jerry), son; Tim Taylor, grandchildren; Jeremy Handley (Leanne), Joy Norton (Paul), Travis Taylor, Emily Taylor, and eight great grandchildren.

Don Taylor was born June 22, 1932. He grew up in the aftermath of the Great Depression. Many of his stories reflected God's provision through that time.

On May 22, 1952, he married the love of his life, Zelma Catherine Jack. For the next 69 years they did everything together, including sharing a room at Glen Haven Nursing Home for the last few years of their lives.

Don loved Jesus, family, poetry, and music. His book "An Offering of Praise" and many other poems and songs were an outpouring of that love. His sweet spirit, his sense of humor and his upbeat attitude earned him many lifelong friends.

At the end of his life, he could not always recognize the members of his family, but he remembered the old hymns of the church and sang many of them in his room without missing a word or a note.

He is now singing a new song with Jesus.
