Richard (Ricky) August Behrens, beloved father, son, brother, and loving husband, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021 in Ponca City, Oklahoma surrounded by his family following a battle with Covid.

He was born June 12, 1963, in San Diego, California to Robert and Margie (Murray) Behrens. The Family moved to Mississippi and later settled in Arkansas City, Kansas where Ricky spent most his life. Ricky was part of a large and loving family, having 7 brothers and sisters. He loved life and had many dreams, which included a desire to become a film director. His passion as a youth involved amateur film making, which he spent many hours perfecting with his own special effects. He graduated Arkansas City High School in 1982. Ricky served honorably in the US Army Reserve from 1982 to 1988 as a Personnel Specialist. This allowed him to get his Associates of Arts from CCCC, Bachelor of General Studies from Wichita State University, Master of Science Environmental Management from La Salle University, and Practical Nurse from Wichita Area Technical College. While attending WSU he met and married Arnell (Low). They lived in Hawaii for several years before returning to Kansas where they settled in Derby. They later divorced. Ricky resettled back in Arkansas City where he later met the love of his life Jaime (Brammer). On April 7, 2001 Ricky and Jaime were united in marriage in Wichita, Kansas. Ricky worked as a nurse at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center, Arkansas City Medical Lodges, Southwind Res Care and Presbyterian Manor. Ricky passion was his family, collecting Star Wars action figures, E.T., Star Trek, and filling his house with music, laughter and dancing. Ricky spent many hours with his children encouraging each one in their own dreams and sharing his childhood of film and technology with them. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Jaime, as well as his children.

Survivors include his wife Jaime Behrens, children: August Diana, Kaia Robbiny, Ian Thomas James, Georgia Murray, Luc Anthony, Oliva Joon, Elliot Tedrick all of the home. Steven Behrens of Wichita, KS , Brittany Behrens of Derby, KS, Sarah Elizabeth Kieffer of Arkansas City, KS , Rebekah Shaye Kieffer of Wichita, KS, and granddaughter Finley McBride. His siblings Linda (Larry) Robinette of Texas, Danny (Carla) Behrens of Oklahoma, Rusty (Tammy) Behrens of Kansas, Jackie (Bob) Standon of Minnesota and Val (Corey) Harrell of Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Robert James Behrens Jr. and sister Marilyn Schulze.


Celebration of life services will be held at the Northwest Community Center in Arkansas City at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 9. Private burial will take place at Parker Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
