Abraham F. Guenther

                Abraham Guenther was born on August 28, 1947 to Isaac and Helena Guenther in Hague Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of 11 children. He lived in the Aberdeen area until the age of 6, when his family moved across the South Saskatchewan River to the Hague area. It was on this river that he spent most of his childhood years. The childhood he described  was happy and carefree surrounded by his 10 siblings and many cousins. Although his family was very poor and often relied on fish from the river for food, the stories he told still painted a very idyllic picture. In July of 1963 Abraham’s family moved to Bolivia. At the age of 15 this was a very hard change for him, but he embraced it and had very many stories to tell of all the adventures he and his brothers had. It was here in January of 1969 that he met his sweetheart, Mary Enns. He biked 25 miles one way to see her every weekend. Abraham was baptized  upon confession of his faith in May 1969 and married the love of his life, Mary in January 1970. The next 6 years were spent building a beautiful farmyard. This is also where they started their family and their first 2 daughters were born. They moved to Canada for 3 years where their 3rd daughter was born and then moved back to Bolivia for close to 2 years. In 1981 they moved to the farm close to Gladstone where he worked on the railroad for 12 years, while farming full time. It was here that their youngest 3 daughters were born.

  In July of 1985 he was elected into the ministry and was ordained in February 1986. He embraced this ministry with his whole heart and loved serving people which he did for 35 years. His passion was that people would come to know Jesus and God would be glorified. In this ministry Dad and Mom traveled extensively, getting to know many people and sharing the gospel. Their travels took them to Mexico, Bolivia, parts of the United States, Ontario, western Canada and even as far as Germany. In August of 1994 Dad quit his work on the railroad and with mom bought a milk quota and started a dairy. Over a decade later they would sell the dairy and continued with beef and grain farming. He was able to serve in the ministry until this past spring when his health rapidly declined. Having diabetes for many years and being on a kidney dialysis for the past 3 years had taken its toll on Dad and he was no longer able to do all the things he loved. Although the last several months were difficult for Dad, he never lost his zest for life and his love for people. In these last months his passion to see people live for Christ only grew stronger. In some of our last conversations Dad was still asking for us to pray for his nurses.

  Dad went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2021. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Mary, his 6 daughters; Agnes ,Terry, Maria(Bryan), Eva(John), Sadie(Chris), Lisa(Frank), Judith, and 28 grandchildren, Jessica(Braden), David(Laurel), Daniel(Jessica), Isaiah(Abby), Gabriel, Elijah, Jeremiah, Seth, Celeste, Joshua, Hadassah, Ben(fiancé-Shannon), Aliah, Nathan, Raeanna, Ezra, Micah, Arianna, Johannah, Emma, Abigail, Serena, Asher, Canaan, Joseph, Ramiah, Samuel and Reuben. He is also survived by 4 great grand children Arika, Adaline, Dominic and Ezekiel and 4 siblings Annie, Peter, Sarah and Henry. He was predeceased by 7 siblings, Nettie, John, Isaac, Helen, Jake, George, his twin sister Mary in infancy and his parents Isaac and Helena Guenther.

  Dad treated everyone in such a way that they knew they were loved and special which flowed out of his deep love for his Saviour, Jesus Christ. Dad was a very joyful person and we know that his greatest joy was fulfilled when he met his Saviour face to face.

  The family would like to thank the staff on the 5th floor at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Dad received wonderful care for which we are very grateful.
