Obituary

We regret to announce the sudden passing of Mark Burt, age 94, at his residence Carter's Cove on Saturday, October 2, 2021. He is predeceased by his wife Minnie, second wife Ruth, daughter Gertie, sons Winston, Eugene (Amelia), parents Frederick & Gertrude, sisters Lillian (Garfield) Young, Elsie (Frank) Dove, Evelyn (Ralph) Dove, brother Hubert (Daisy) and brother-in-law Clayton Keats.

Left with fond and loving memories are his children Sylvia, Nancy (Hedley) Nicholas, Hazel (Wilson) Gleason, Mark (Donna), Leonard (Wanda), Lavinia (Demo) Aliferis, daughter-in-law Christina, grandchildren Wanda, Sylvia, Justin, Steven, Stacy, Scott, Pamela, Jennifer, Cory, Lee, Timothy, Danielle, Jesse, Chelsea, great-grandchildren Alden, Foster, Maddison, Jackson, Cassidy, Ethen, Daniel, Sarah, Ryan, Coady, Noah, Savannah, Joseph, Lilee, Kara, Raina, Elenora, Braeden, Kyra, Nixon great-great-grandchildren Thea and Chloe.  Also left to mourn is his only surviving sibling Arlene Keats.

At the age of 11 years and 10 months (those who knew Dad would know that he was exacting with detail), he left home to work in Millertown. From his first paycheck he gave his mother $ 60.00 to buy a Comfort Stove, and had money to spare. From 1955 to the time of retirement he worked with many construction companies, retiring with Hickman's. He learned the tools of the trade with mechanics and in 1960 he became a Master Mechanic - a great achievement with only a grade six education! He had a strong hard core work ethic.

Mark was blessed with a keen mind, which was evident up to the time of his passing. In fact, it was "mind boggling" to sit and listen to him share so much information. He was also the unofficial "Town Crier", and will be missed in that area. Whenever anyone inquired of his health, he would say "I'm hanging in there"; "age will take care of it" or "same old thing".  Well, Dad, these phrases will no longer be needed. You were waiting to go into a Personal Care Home, but God saw fit to take you to your Heavenly Home to be with Him. We cannot forget that he was an avid fan of TV game shows especially Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Resting at the New World Island Funeral Home where , following strict Covid-19 regulations, visitation will take place on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 7 pm to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place, for invited guests only, on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm. with Rev. C. Ginn officiating. Interment will follow at the United Church Cemetery, Carter's Cove.  Pallbearers are Jamie Dove, Jennifer Gleason, Wanda Howlett, Daniel Janes, Lindy Burt and Carson Burt.

Donations in Marks memory will be gratefully accepted for the Carter's Cove Cemetery Fund.
