David James Gross Obituary

David (Dave) Gross, devoted husband of 59 years, loving father, and grandfather passed away in his
home peacefully on September 27, 2021, at the age of 90 years young.
Dave was born in Los Angeles, CA in 1931 to Alfred and Olive Gross. He was the youngest of eight
children including brothers George, Tom, Oliver, Bill, Donald, Vincent and sister Mary Jane.
Dave grew up in Westwood, CA and attended UCLA. He was a member of the UCLA ski team through
which he met the love of his life Patricia (Patti) Jean Porter, also from Westwood. Dave and Patti
courted for 6 years and were married on February 2, 1957.
Soon after the birth of their first son, Karl, they moved from Southern California to Oroville where Dave
worked as an Engineering-Geologist on Oroville Dam. It was in Oroville that their next two children, Jill
and Cathy were born. In 1968, Dave and family moved to Pakistan for four years for work on the
Tarbella Dam. While in Pakistan, their fourth child, Linda, was born. Dave enjoyed many adventures
travelling the world with Patti and their four children during their stay in Pakistan and their three
months of camping and travelling through Europe on their return to the U.S.
In 1972, Dave and family settled in Walnut Creek and in 1975 their fifth child, Jonathan, was born. David
and Patti loved spending time with their family in the great outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking, skiing and
biking, especially on their two-seater tandem bike, but their true passion was couples dancing.
Dave was a devoted husband and father who cherished time spent with his extended family including
his 10 grandchildren who all live close to their Walnut Creek home. Patti went to heaven in this home on
December 29, 2015. This was the same home where Dave past peacefully, in his sleep, while in the care
of his devoted caregivers to whom his family will be forever grateful.
Dave is survived by his five children and their spouses: Madeleine Gross, Larry Wise, Steve Lambert, and
Ana Gross. Dave will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Amelie, Daniel, Benjamin, Matthew,
Walker, Audrey, Killian, Riley, Justin and Jordan. We take joy in knowing he is once again reunited with
his beloved bride Patti in heaven and the two of them are no doubt dancing together with the stars.
