Ruth Marie Black, age 95, the daughter of Everett J. and Leta Irene (Pierson) Quick, was born April 1, 1926, at Lamoni, Iowa. She died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Ruth grew up in Brooklyn, Missouri and graduated from high school at Ridgeway, Missouri in 1943. In 1945, she married Calvin Andrew Combs and was blessed with three children, Donna, Ken and Gene. In 1954, she married George Albert Black, Jr. They were blessed with two children, Sandra and Michael. Ruth was a great cook and enjoyed hosting dinners for her family. She attended all of her children’s and many of her grandchildren’s activities. She also enjoyed making quilts for her new grand babies, gardening, and camping. She was a member of the Decatur Restoration Branch. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, George Black, Jr.; children, Donna Tellier and Gene Combs; son-in-law, Jim White; grandson, Alfred Pinegar; grandson-in-law, Stephen Grogan; and both her brothers, Bob Quick and Rollin Quick. Survivors include her children, Ken Combs and wife, Pam of Lamoni, Iowa, Sandy White of Osawatomie, Kansas, and Mike Black and wife, Marcia of Eagleville, Missouri; son-in-law, Ron “Frog” Tellier of Davis City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Devy Combs of Kearney, Missouri; grandchildren, Rick Pinegar & Carolyn, Julie Waddell & Todd, Kyle Combs, Kelsey Hosie & Tyler, Carrie Dalrymple & Nathan, Aaron Hagan & Megan, Dylan Combs, Katelyn Combs, Christina Grogan, Jamie White & Ronnie, Whitney Inlow & David, Rusty White, Carrie White, Seth Black & Amanda, Matthew Black & Christina, Alannah McHenry & Caleb, Jason Allison & Jen, and Michelle Rheuport & Mike; numerous great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Quick; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021, with Jon Barney officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. An open visitation will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa on Tuesday, 2 – 7 p.m. with face masks required.
