"Rigor"

Charles Louis “Rigor” Mortus, 73, of Aberdeen, MD, passed away peacefully September 30 at home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Port Clinton, Ohio on November 18, 1947, Rigor was the son of the late Norman and Betty Mortus. He was a graduate of Aberdeen High School. Rigor was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving two tours in the Mediterranean on the USS Forrestal. Following his service in the Marines, he served as a Police Officer in the Aberdeen Police Force. Rigor and his wife, Barb, owned and operated the 7-11 store on Route 40 in Aberdeen for 17 years. For the last 30 years he worked for Harford County Public Schools at Aberdeen High School. Always active in the community, Rigor was involved in Parks and Rec for 47 years, serving many of those years as its President. He was well known throughout Aberdeen as "Coach Rigor" for his involvement with atheletes in Parks & Rec, high school and Ripken Baseball. Rigor was also active in Jaycees, the Rotary, the Aberdeen Lions Club and the Boys and Girls Club not to mention all of his humanitarian deeds. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Barbara Armstrong Mortus; his daughter, Becky Zimmerman of Aberdeen; his son, Brian Mortus (Stacy Hall) of Middle River; and his granddaughter Emma Zimmerman of Aberdeen, In addition he was survived by his two brothers, Fred Mortus (Karon) of Marietta, GA, and David Mortus (Wendy) of Apollo Beach, FL. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his brothers, Danny Lee and Terry Mortus and his son-in-law Greg Zimmerman. Please join us for a Celebration of Life for Charles "Rigor" Mortus. We have chosen an open air venue for everyone's safety. We ask that you respect Social Distancing and masks are expected. The celebration will be held 6pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Aberdeen High School's Football Field. This is a casual event packed with designated speakers to share their special memories of our beloved Rigor.
