<p>&nbsp;</p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Laura Annette Derrick Smith, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 after a short illness surrounded by her daughters.</strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>She was born in Gilbert, South Carolina. At an early age, after the death of her mother, she was placed in Epworth Children&rsquo;s Home along with her brother.&nbsp; There she met the love of her life and husband of 61 years.&nbsp; She attended the University of South Carolina in administration.&nbsp; She was an avid Gamecock Fan and attended many football, basketball and baseball games at home and away.&nbsp; She is a long time member of Cayce United Methodist Church and a member of the Seekers/Friendship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Smith was an honorary member of the Golden Girls (she was most golden) the Red Hat Ladies, and Lunch Buddies, Bonnie &amp; Doug. She was a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.</strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Surviving are her daughters: Cheryl and Terri Smith and Pam Schwartz; grandsons, Jason Schwartz (Jamie) and Derek Schwartz; great grandchildren, Hunter, Kayleigh and Karlee; and sister, Nell Berrie.&nbsp; She was predeceased by her brothers, Julius, and Cecil; and sisters, Sarah and Willie. She will be greatly missed by her favorite &ldquo;other&rdquo; daughter, Kay; niece, Vickie; and nephews, Johnny, Rickie, Robbie. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews that shared her love of Gamecock sports and her sense of humor.</strong></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The family will receive friends 9 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Cayce United Methodist Church Sanctuary followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary.&nbsp; Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchild.&nbsp; A private committal service will be held at Southland Memorial Gardens for the family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Children&rsquo;s Home or to Cayce United Methodist Church. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.</strong></p>
