Marie Antoinette Comley Obituary

Marie Maurin Comley, 101, went to her eternal home September 27th 2021. She passed away peacefully in her Wagner Road home surrounded by her family. Born October 20th, 1919 the daughter of the late John Maurin and Antoinette (Jechelnik) Maurin of Bethel.

She was a graduate of University High School. She studied to become a Registered Nurse at the City Hospital of Morgantown located on Willey St later known to local residents as the Vincent Pallotti Hospital.

Marie is a United States Army World War II veteran, commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Women’s Army Corp. She served as a nurse based out of the Billings General Hospital in Indiana. She was honorably discharged and received the Victory Metal for her service. She then pursued her nursing career in private practice with Dr Johns and later Drs, Thompson, Greco, Stevens, and Kerr in Morgantown.

Marie played a pivotal role in the award-winning documentary “Ageless Friends”. The film is a story about a US soldier, James Wickline, who was killed in action and buried in the Netherlands. The film speaks in part to the relationship of the Maurin and Wickline families. Marie gave an eyewitness account in the movie regarding the news of the wartime tragedy. The 2016 documentary débuted in Morgantown’s own Metropolitan Theater.

A lady of great compassion and faith, Marie’s sweet spirit was known to all.  The Goshen Road Baptist Church was her home for worship for many years. She loved singing with the Choir and found great joy and comfort in the hymns. She would often host the gatherings of her Christmas Caroling Choir at her home. Her faith was strong and carried her every day of her life.

Marie attributed her long life, just 23 days shy of 102, to being an avid walker, a love for laughter, and most importantly, a love for Jesus.

In addition to her parents, preceding her in death: Henry Allen Comley, her loving husband of 56 years; her son, Douglass Edward Comley at birth;  Brother, Edward Maurin of Westover, WV; and Sister, Madeline Cross of Erie, PA.

She is survived by her sons: Donald A. Comley of Morgantown, WV and David T. Comley and his wife Mary Jo of Fairmont, WV.
