Leona A Reed Obituary

Leona Ann Reed was born on January 29, 1953 in Tillamook Oregon to Vern and Jean Stoll. They lived in Tillamook until 1955 at which time they move to Newberg Oregon. They left Newberg in 1958 and moved to Salem where she lived until she went to college.

Leona made her choice to serve the Lord during her middle school years then recommitted herself during high school. She had an unwavering love for the Truth of God. She often talked about having faith, having an increase of faith and faith in difficult situations. She also loved having an open home, having meeting at her home and the fellowship of the friends and Workers.

Leona graduated from North Salem High School in 1971 and started at Linfield College in 1972. She attended Linfield, Oregon State University and spent a year at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. She graduated from OSU in 1975 with a degree in education. She started her teaching career at Dundee Elementary School teaching 3rd grade that same year.

It was during Leona’s second year of teaching that she met her husband, Jeff. After about a year of dating they were married on November 25, 1977. She continued teaching full time until they started their family. After the boys were all in school she was a substitute teacher for over 20 years. She also was very involved in the art literacy program at Mable Rush School.

Leona and Jeff went on to have 3 boys Daniel, Randy and Jason. They raised their family in Newberg and eventually moved to Newport in June of 2020 and resided there until her passing.

Leona loved to travel. In addition to the many, many camping trips all over the west she enjoyed multiple trips to the Caribbean, two trips to Europe, a trip to Japan with her Aunt Dorothy Fry, going through the Panama Canal with Bernie and Tamara on their sailboat and many, many trips to Hawaii.

Leona was an avid water fan. She taught water aerobics in Newberg for about 10 years, was a good water skier and loved the pool at home. One of her favorite things to do was have the young kids and mothers over during the week for a pool day. Lots of good memories around the pool.

She loved our family get togethers at birthdays and other holidays. Being a great cook she was always busy putting things together so we could all have a good time.

Leona had a special place in her heart for the less fortunate. Those who just couldn’t quite take care of themselves and struggled in life. Either through mental illness, substance abuse or just unfortunate circumstances. Jeff and Leona have a home that house 3 adult men with mental disabilities. She would often say “We can’t sell that place, what would they do, we have to keep that home”. She was an active member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

She is survived by her husband Jeff, son and wife Daniel and Rachel along with their son Zeke, son and wife Randy and Becky and their children Deanna and Ashton and son Jason, her brother Bernie and wife Tamara, step sisters Traci, Kay and step bother Mark along with many nieces and nephews aunts and uncles and many friends. Her long time college friend Valerie Cline played a special role in Leona’s life and she always valued her time with her.

Her life was a race well ran. Crossing the finish line on this earth with grace and victory. A faith that questioned not.
