October 29, 1948 – September 22, 2021. On September 22, 2021, Ronald “Mac” McLeod left this Earth for a better place after his fight with the Covid virus. He will be missed by many. He was 72 years old. Born in Gold Beach, Oregon, Mac lived there with his parents, sister and brother for 16 years in a little rustic cabin in the country. In Southern Oregon, he learned and honed his deer and elk hunting skills from his father, and was passionate about hunting for the remainder of his life.

Mac settled in the Vancouver, WA area in 1972 where he lived for 40 years, working at Alcoa Aluminum and then Georgia Pacific in Camas, WA, until 2006, when he took an early retirement. During those 40 years, he spent as much time as he could in the mountains of SW Washington, and especially Silver Star northeast of Washougal, WA doing what he loved most, pursuing that big horned buck. He and his cousin, Jerry Lively (now deceased) would love to sit and tell their hunting stories and reminisce about the “good ole days”. Besides deer hunting, Mac also loved 4-wheeling, camping and world history.

He met and married his current wife, Marilyn, in Battle Ground, WA when he lived there and was raising his two children. They married in 2003 in Washougal,WA and then settled in a home on 5 acres north of Washougal, where they enjoyed horseback riding and raising alpacas. Mac also had a dream of writing a book about his hunting experiences, his favorite rifles, and about reloading. After they both retired, from 2010 to 2012, Mac and his wife wrote that book which is a wonderful legacy to Mac and his father. The name of the book is “Making a Case for the Right Rifle, Who Can Own Just One?” It has been sold in various sportsmen stores, gun shows and sportsmen shows for the last few years.  In 2012, Mac and Marilyn moved to Central Oregon as they both wanted to experience a dry climate for a change. They’ve lived in LaPine, and then Madras, since 2012.

Mac was a teaser. He loved to laugh and joke, and he loved recounting the stories that he heard from his grandfather while growing up in Southern Oregon. There is a lot of McLeod history in Southern Oregon and he was very passionate about exploring his family history and collecting information and photographs, and visiting museums in small towns all over Southern Oregon.

Mac is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marilyn McLeod, his son, Justin Ryan McLeod, his daughter, Siobhan McLeod, 4 granddaughters, Skye, Ava, Violet and Izzy, his step-son, Justin Fossum, and his brother, Jim McLeod.
