Robert Alexander Fuller Obituary

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF

ROBERT ALEXANDER “BOBBY” FULLER

It is with heavy hearts, deep sadness and acceptance of God's will, that the Fuller family announces the passing of their beloved: Robert A. "Bobby" Fuller, on 9/12/21, at the GWU Hospital. Bobby transitioned to Glory surrounded by his devoted, dearly beloved wife of 37 years, Mumbi Grace Fuller; his Sister-in- Law, Kagure Mary Karanu (Mumbi Grace's sister); the GWU Hospital Chaplain and his ICU Nurse. Bobby was a man of deep Faith, who had confessed Christ Jesus as his personal Savior and Lord! He had just celebrated his 75th Birthday.

Born on September 10, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, Robert Fuller was the last-born among four children: Charlotte, Arthur, Richard and Bobby, born to Richmond and Virginia Fuller. He was raised in a hard-working blue collar family in the South End of Boston, a predominantly black community at the time. He received his early education in the Boston public school system, graduating from Boston English High School in1964. Robert Fuller graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (Hons) from Boston’s Northeastern University in 1970. He also studied at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

A consummate HR professional with a passion for organizational missions working for international peace and social justice, Robert Fuller was the former Director of Human Resources and Operations for "Search for Common Ground" (SFCG), an international nongovernmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Washington, DC and Brussels, Belgium. He was also the former HR Director for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC, another international NGO) headquartered in Philadelphia, PA; and Legal Services Corporation (LSC) in Washington, DC. Both the SFCG and AFSC missions work in peace building, social justice and conflict resolution in the United States and throughout the world; while the LSC is a national nonprofit organization that promotes equal access to justice, by funding independent providers of legal services to provide high quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans.

Robert Fuller’s international HR work included advising Staff and Consultants serving in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. He had been a past contributor to various management publications, a guest lecturer at the George Washington University’s MBA Program, and served as an Advisor/Member of various nonprofit Boards of Directors. He also had held HR management positions with Edison Electric Institute and the George Washington University in Washington, DC; and with the City of Boston. The Memorial Program on this website presents a broader Celebration of Bobby’s life.

Robert Fuller and his wife, Mumbi Grace Fuller – former two-term Board Director and former Board President of Town Square Towers Condominium (TST), were a part of the TST community for 28 years, both as off-site owners (from Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, Delaware) and as residents. Mr. Fuller loved and appreciated TST greatly, but preferred to "volunteer" for the community from behind the scenes

by substantively supporting his wife's work. He was his wife's "number-one supporter" and chief advisor over the years, both on and off the Board of Directors. Grace admits that whenever she took a course of action in governance that didn't turn out well, it often was when she acted contrary to Bobby's counsel! But she notes he was a man of Faith and humility – hardly ever came “gloating” with an 'I told you so' remark. Instead he would sit down with her, go over the facts and outcomes; then they would file that one away in the "lessons learned" column.

Robert Fuller was predeceased by his oldest sibling, Charlotte Fuller and his parents, Richmond and Virginia Fuller - formerly of Boston, Massachusetts. Left to cherish his memory include his devoted, dearly beloved wife of 37 years, Mumbi Grace; beloved brothers Arthur (Freda) Fuller of Milford, Massachusetts and Richard (Millie) Fuller of Milton, MA; nephew Steve (Molly) Fuller and family of Lafayette, Indiana; nephew Jerry (Nickie) Fuller and family of Worcester, MA; niece Anika (Sharod) Cozart and family of Woodland Hills, CA; nephew Kobie (Shennel) Fuller and family of Beverly Hills, CA; and a host of cousins, other relatives and in-laws in the United States and Kenya.

Former friends and colleagues remember Bobby as a “great human being”; “a man of great compassion, kindness” and humility; “wonderful and a joy to work with”, among many fine qualities. He also had a very good sense of humor; he was funny, smart, loved to crack jokes and could laugh really hard – especially in social gatherings and at home! He was such a joy to be around! And he was easy to love! To know Bobby was to love him!

The Homegoing Service and “Celebration of Life" was held on Friday, 10/15/21, at the Chapel of J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home, 7474 Landover Road, Hyattsville, Maryland.
