James Clay Daugherty

JC Daugherty was born on the 25th of July 1925 in Kiowa, Oklahoma to Zorah (Henderson) and Tracy (Harry T.) Daugherty. <br /><br />JC went into the US Army in 1945. Upon his return in 1946, he graduated from Cameron Jr. College with a degree in Business Administration. He graduated in 1948 and enrolled in the College of Law, University of Oklahoma but was recalled to active duty with the 45th Infantry Division, Oklahoma National Guard. In 1952 he reentered the College of Law and received his Juris Doctorate in 1953 and on the 12th day of June 1953, he was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association.<br /><br />JC moved to Holdenville in 1953 and entered in law practice with Hugh M. Sandlin, The law firm of Sandlin and Daugherty lasted 20 years until the death of Mr. Sandlin. For the next 18 years, JC and Harold Heath practiced law under the firm name of Daugherty & Heath until 1991. <br /><br />It was in Holdenville that JC met his 1st wife, partner and friend for 40 years Barbara Ann Mealey Daugherty. There were married on August 21, 1954. To this marriage five children were born: Katherine Anne Daugherty, James Alec Daugherty, David Alan Daugherty, Barbara Lynn Daugherty Martinez and John Clay Daugherty. Barbara Daugherty died on July 7, 1994. JC moved to Oklahoma City in 1997 and married his high school sweetheart, Lois Guest Luster on April 15, 1999. Lois died on October 28, 2020. They were married for 21 years.<br /><br />On September 1973, JC was appointed to Commander, 45th Infantry Brigade and subsequently promoted to Brigadier General. He retired from the Oklahoma National Guard in 1976. JC participated in many civic activities and organizations throughout his life. He was also active in the National Guard Association.<br /><br />Dad is survived by his children, Katherine Anne Daugherty, David Alan Daugherty and Barbara Lynn Martinez and husband Ernie. He has five grandchildren, Natalie, Quinn and Scout Daugherty, Lauren (Rick) Diaz, and John Carlos Martinez and his very special great grandson, Ricky Diaz (17 months), step children, Twana Marshall (Mike) and Tom Luster (Marquitta) and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.<br /><br />Dad is preceded in death by his parents, wives; Barbara and Lois, sons James Alec and John Clay and brother Gene and his sister in law JoAnn Daugherty.<br /><br />The family is thankful for Katherine Chandler and Synergy Home Health, private caregiver, Cee Cee Dixon, Lori Skinner R.N. and Apex Hospice along with Dr. Haponi, M.D.<br /><br />In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Oklahoma 45th National Guard Museum, Oklahoma City, OK.<br /><br />Viewing will be 1:00pm-7:00pm Saturday, October 2nd and 1:00pm-5:00pm Sunday, October 3rd at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma.<br /><br />Funeral service will be at Hudson Phillips Funeral Home Chapel 2:00pm Monday, October 4, 2021. <br /><br />Full Military Honors will be held at Holdenville Cemetery. Interment will follow at the Holdenville Cemetery.<br /><br />Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, OK.<br />
