Alice Ruby Klien Maple Creek, Saskatchewan Obituary

Alice Ruby Klien

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alice Klien announces her passing at the Maple Creek hospital on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the age of 87.

Alice was one of six children born into the family of George and Eliza Lake on a farm near Viewfield, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Stoughton and later became a teacher after graduating in 1953. She taught in Wawota for a year, and then moved to Pletain, south of Piapot. It was at this time she met the love of her life, Albert Klien, and they were married on October 18, 1955. Alice enjoyed being out in the field working along side Albert and the hired men at the 76 Ranch for years, and once they bought and moved to the Olson’s farm north of Piapot in the fall of 1972, she continued to help out in the field. Albert and Alice worked together as a team with love and respect for one another for the years they were together and on the farm. Albert passed in March of 1991 and that fall Alice moved into Maple Creek where she took up bowling, bingo, aquasize, and going on bus trips with her friend Bella to Temple Gardens and Casino in Moose Jaw. Her heart was fulfilled by spending time with her children and watching her grandchildren grow up.

Alice will be remembered and missed by her four children: Betty Greenwood (Marvin Neufeld) son Chad, Elaine (Larry) Schafer son’s Mike (Katherine), Jeff (Christie), Garry (Ylla) Klien son’s Garrett (Kristal), Brady (Cassidy), Arlene (Darren) Wheeler and children Jorden (Justine), Amy (Logan) Beitel Great Grandchildren: Eve and Isabel, Becca, Hudson and Blaire, Jayce and Declan, Jackson and Parker. Alice is survived by one brother, Chuck (Beth) Lake. Sister-in-Law Irene Seymour and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by husband Albert Klien, parents George and Eliza Lake, brothers John and wife Iona, Bill and wife Shirley, sisters Mary and husband Henry, sister Verna and husband Jim as well as niece’s Sandra Wallace-Lake and Peggy Lake Great Grandchild Norah Schafer. Albert’s parents Jacob and Salma Klien and siblings, Art, Emile, Annie, Martha, Ida, Ester, Violet, Freddie, and Kenny.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Growing up, one of my memories of Auntie Alice was when she came to visit my mom (Ester) she always wore cowboy boots and had the biggest smile. Sending my love for you to find comfort in the coming days and cherished memories you can forever hold on to.

So true Sherry, for as many years as I can remember mom had always wore cowboy boots. They were the only thing that gave her support on her ankle after there accident in 1968. Im happy you have special memories of mom! Thanks for sharing!
