June Miller Obituary

June Evans Miller, age 85, passed peacefully at her home after a long illness surrounded by her loving family on September 23, 2021. She was born August 9, 1936, in Knoxville to Robert and Helen Roberts Evans. June was a graduate of Rule High School.

She was married to her husband of 63 years, John B. Miller, her high school sweetheart. Their marriage was blessed by three children, Greg, Candy, and Angie. Following John’s career, the family lived in Knoxville, Jacksonville, FL, Lafayette, GA, and Vicksburg, MS, before arriving in Morristown in 1973.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by their two daughters, Candy (Alan) Templin and Angie (Mike) Fishman. She is also survived by the grandchildren she adored, Lucas (Madison), Leabeth, and Lydia Fishman, and Isaac Miller Templin. She treasured her role in their lives as their “Granna.” She is also survived by her sisters, Patsy Walker, Joy Bennett, Linda Beeler, Glenda Lyons, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her only beloved son, Greg, her special angel, her grandson, John-Alan, and siblings, Bob Evans, Mary Lou McCarter, and Brenda Lands.

June was a natural-born optimist with a servant’s heart who saw the best in everyone she met and possessed the ability to make each one she encountered feel special. Her home was a place of hospitality, family, and haven for all who entered the door.

The loss of her son, Greg, was a great tragedy, but she turned the painful loss into a ministry of serving others. Shortly after his death, June returned to college to enter the workforce after many years as a stay-at-home mother. June used her experiences with pain to love others more and to serve those who also suffered. She worked for almost two decades, supporting other families in their loss as the office manager at a local funeral home. Closing that chapter, she opened Miller Casket and Burial Needs.

In her retirement, one could find June working in her flower garden, singing on the porch, reading her Bible, riding through the country with John, or engaging in prayer for the needs of others. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

The family extends special thanks for their assistance to the family during her illness to Caris Healthcare. Her daughter, Candy, tenderly cared for her mother for the last four years of her life and was her constant companion. Pallbearers will be Mike Fishman, Alan Templin, Lucas Fishman, Isaac Templin, Leabeth Fishman, and Lydia Fishman.

The family will receive friends at Morristown First Baptist Church Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 1:30 PM-3:00 PM. Funeral services will be Sunday at 3:00 PM with Dr. Dean Haun and Rev. Danny Georges officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Jarnagin Cemetery, Morristown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to God’s Warehouse.  Make checks to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1899, Morristown, TN  37816 and designate God’s Warehouse in memory of June Miller on the subject line.
