Canterbury – Martin N. Gumbs, 84, beloved husband of the late Rita A. (Post) Gumbs passed away September 23, 2021. He was born August 28, 1937 in New London a son of the late Isadore M. and Anna Mae (Cady) Gumbs and had resided in Canterbury since 1973. Mr. Gumbs was employed by Pipefitter and Plumbing Local # 777 for 30 years. He was a member of the Canterbury Senior Citizens, the Canterbury Republican Town Committee, and a former member of the Canterbury Zoning Board of Appeals. Marty was a loving family man, avid farmer, who you could always find tinkering in his shop, or spending time with his beloved donkey Jenny. He leaves his son and daughter in law Ralph and Debra Gumbs of Nokomis FL; a brother Frederick Lewis of Vermont; 10 grandchildren Stephanie Gumbs, Leah Gumbs, Jacob Burroughs, Abrielle Gumbs, Josh Burroughs, Ryan Gumbs, Jaclyn Schuler, Elizabeth Burroughs, Jennifer Cady, Marc Jacques, and 15 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind Nancie Cole who was very special to him. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a daughter Terry Burroughs, a son Brian Gumbs, 2 brothers James and Robert Lewis. Visiting hours will be Saturday (09/25/2021) from 1-4PM at Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home 595 Norwich Rd. Plainfield. Burial will take place at a later date. www.doughertybrosfuneralhome.com
