<p>Debbie &ldquo;Ponytail&rdquo; Curtis, age 59, passed away after an extended illness at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of hospice. &nbsp;The Florida native found her joy and life&rsquo;s calling in Georgia after grade school. &nbsp;She would go on to study in the Appling County school system where she would ultimately meet the love of her life, Allen Curtis at a chance encounter pumping gas. &nbsp;From an early age she would discover her passion for being around new people and helping them in whatever way that she could. &nbsp;Her passion would ultimately lead her to a career in customer service and management. &nbsp;The last 15+ years of her working life would have her serve at Walmart in Jesup as a department head. &nbsp;Her love for both her co-workers and customers would consume her life. &nbsp;There were countless times that regular customer&rsquo;s kids would come up and hug her! &nbsp;In her free time, her love to help and build up people would not end. &nbsp;Debbie was definitely most satisfied when she was in the service of others. &nbsp;A giving heart, a nurturing soul, and a loving person; Debbie will be deeply missed by all whom lives she touched. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her father, James Virgil Godwin; two brothers, James Dale Godwin and Wesley Godwin.</p> <p>Left to cherish memories of a life well lived is her husband, Allen Curtis; her mother and step father, Marilyn and Carrol Phillips of Wayne County; a son, Shawn (Amber Spears) Curtis of Odom; a daughter, Ashely (Jarred Stephens) Wells of Jesup; two grandchildren, Ashlynn Stephens and Grayson M. Curtis; several uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and many friends also survive.</p> <p>Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 24, 2021, from 10:00 &ndash; 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 209 Friendship Church Road, Odum GA 31555 &nbsp;Funeral services will follow visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Revs. Sue Gould and Kevin Johnson officiating.</p> <p>Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery in Baxley.</p> <p>Pallbearers will be Johnny Courson, Rusty Carter, Dusty Carter, Bill Kersey, Derek Perry, and Kenny Godwin.</p> <p>Low County Cremation &amp; Burial is serving the Curtis family during their time of bereavement.</p>
