Samuel Wesley Frederick, 84, of Sullivan passed away 1:51 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Good Shepard Hospital, Shelbyville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, Friday at the funeral home in Sullivan. The family request casual attire. Face masks are suggested and please practice social distancing for the services. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Bethany, with Military Rites by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68. Memorials may be made to the Sullivan VFW Sam was born December 11, 1936, in Kirksville; the son of M.D. and Edna May (Matheson) Frederick. He served in the United States Army. Sam married Wilma Kay Armstrong on November 4, 1988, in Sullivan; she preceded him in death on April 27, 2014. He attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church in rural Bethany and was a member of the Sullivan VFW and Sullivan American Legion Post #68. Sam enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and butchering. He is survived by his son, Wesley Dean (Christy Ann) Frederick of Arthur; step-sons, Steve Miller and Doug Miller; brother, Jake (Shirley) Frederick of Mattoon; sisters, Beverly Bolsen of Mattoon and Pearl Hudson of Mattoon. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 9 brothers and sisters.
