Sharon Kay Palmgren Obituary

Sharon Kay Palmgren, 79, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away September 21, 2021, at Hospice House of Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born March 19, 1942, in Lyons, the daughter of Hiram and Marceline Tener Smith. Sharon was a near lifelong Rice County resident. She graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1960, and attended Union 5 Schools. Sharon owned and operated Burrton Mini Mall in Burrton, Kansas, where she sold arts & crafts; she was also a Avon Sales Representative; military spouse; and a homemaker. She enjoyed making arts and crafts, especially Burden Bears, which she enjoyed giving away. Sharon loved spending time with her family and ingrained the love of family into her own family. Sharon was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Lyons, where she sang in the church choir and served on several church committees; and was a member of the United Methodist Women. On August 27, 1971, Sharon was united in marriage with John Palmgren in Hutchinson, Kansas. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her six children, Christopher Alan Morrison and wife Christy of Lyons, Steve Morrison and wife Tonya of Whitewater, TX, John Chris Palmgren of Salina, KS, Dan Brown and wife Haley of Nesbit, MS, Jennifer Demoret and husband Brad of Lynchburg, VA, and Cynthia Rivera and fiancé Jeremy Bilson of Lyons; twenty-five grandchildren; and forty-one great grandchildren and one on the way. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; two stepmothers, Lily Smith, and Anna Smisor-Smith; two brothers, Frank Smith, and Duane Smith; two sisters, Jeannine Hefley, and Delores Nevil; and granddaughter, Kayla Demoret. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 27, 2021, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Lyons with Pastor Rob Bolton officiating. Burial will follow at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, rural Lyons. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M., Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present. Memorials may be given to Sharon Palmgren Memorial Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
