Eugene Gordhamer Obituary

Eugene “Gene” Ronald Gordhamer passed away on Saturday, September 18 at Lakewood Health Care Center, Staples, MN. He was born to the late Maurice and Elvera (Nelson) Gordhamer on Feb. 14, 1941 on the Gordhamer farm outside of Mora, MN. Later that year, the family moved to Minneapolis. He began school there in 1946 as a kindergartener at Cooper School. In the spring of 1948, the family moved to Ann Lake near Ogilvie, MN where he entered rural Spring Brook School as a first grader. Growing up on the lake he trapped, fished, and gathered wild rice. As he grew older, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in Northern Minnesota and Canada.

After graduating from Ogilvie High School in 1959, Gene worked for Minneapolis Moline and later attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He trained as a sheet metal worker and was employed by Rosco and LeRoy Sign Cooperation until his retirement in 2003. The signs on County Markey Stores and the large entrance signs at Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Hinkley are examples of his work.

In 1975, he married Gloria Stevens Wanglie. To this marriage were two born daughters, Rusty (Dixon) of Minneapolis, and Kelly (Weiss) of Little Falls and a son Alan who passed away in 1994. In addition to his daughters Gene is survived by his 5 grandchildren, brother Larry (Carol) Gordhamer; and sisters Darlene (Charles) Kientop, and Betty Jo (James) Williams.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, son, Alan, and son in law, PFC Robert Dixon. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Mora, with final arrangements pending.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel- Baxter.
