Mitchell Earl "Mick" Wansley Obituary

Mr. Mitchell Earl Wansley, better known as “Mick”, passed away at his home in Elberton, Georgia on Monday, September 20, 2021, at the age of 93. Mr. Wansley was born at home on Hester Road in the Flatwoods section of Elberton on June 17, 1928, the youngest of four children of Paul Richard Wansley and Leila Irene McCall Wansley. He was a 1945 graduate of Nancy Hart High School and furthered his education at the University of Georgia where he studied farming. It wasn’t long before Mick returned home to join his father and brother on the family farm where he lived out the remainder of his 93 years. Of his many accomplishments in farming, he was most proud of the opportunity to be able to teach basic agriculture to WWII veterans upon their return home after service. Mr. Wansley was a life long member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, served as trustee of the Building Committee, and was instrumental in building the fellowship hall. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan who was always accompanied by his transistor radio during cotton picking season so he could listen to Larry Munson. He was the husband of 66 years to Camilla Ruth Rosser Wansley, to whom he was married on March 19, 1955; proud father of Richard Earl Wansley and his wife Tonia and the late Roger Anthony Wansley; devoted “Papa” of Amanda Wansley Brady, her husband Adam, and their boys Sawyer and Silas, Erin Wansley Slay and her husband Caleb, and Trey Wansley and his wife Shelby; and brother of the late Imogene Wansley Drake, the late Paul Vernon Wansley, and the late Curtis James Wansley. Mr. Wansley will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home on Thursday, September 23, from 10:00a.m.-5:00p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook. The family is at the home and will receive friends at Bethlehem United Methodist Church on Friday, September 24, from 10:00-10:45a.m. Graveside services celebrating his life will follow at 11:00a.m. in the church cemetery with the Rev. John Moore officiating. Pallbearers will include Trey Wansley, Adam Brady, Caleb Slay, Denny Drake, Tom McCall, and Allen Herndon honored as pallbearers. Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1025 Welcome Church Road, Elberton, GA 30635. Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.berryfh.com. Berry Funeral Home & Crematory of Elberton is respectfully in charge of arrangements for Mr. Michell Earl “Mick” Wansley.
