David Ralph Rienstra Worthington, Minnesota Obituary

David Ralph Rienstra

David Ralph Rienstra was born April 15, 1953, and passed away peacefully at his home on September 19, 2021. David attended Worthington schools where he was in choir and played the coronet in band. He graduated Worthington Sr. High in 1971. He then joined the Navy where he served and was stationed in San Diego, CA. After his time of service, he came back to Worthington where he worked with his parents at Ralph’s Shoe Service. Growing up on Lake Okabena in Worthington, David enjoyed all the usual summer activities of swimming, water skiing and boating. He was an excellent swimmer and loved to dive. When winter set in he took to the ice with his dad to ice fish or skate. He loved building snow forts and sledding tracks with his sister and neighborhood friends. During those long winter snowstorms, he would break out the cards and board games and the family would play into the wee hours. He loved baseball and would practice throwing and batting until the street lights came on. He had quite a precious collection of baseball cards and enjoyed being an avid coin collector. Dave had a passion for Ham Radio and communicated via morse code with many Ham operators across the world. He had calling cards from most every country and was always excited to be listening and reaching out to others around the globe. He loved Astronomy and had a beautiful telescope. He would get it all set up and then wake his family at 3am to see the rings of Saturn or gaze at a certain constellation. As a lifelong member of St Matthews, Dave loved going to church and singing hymns. He especially loved Christmas music. His deepest passion was reading and studying the Bible. He had a unique way of being able to memorize hundreds of Bible verses, which he loved to share with all he knew. This was his love. He was a generous friend to all he met and wanted to help in any way he could. He loved Worthington, his family and friends and taking walks. David was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Norma Rienstra. He is survived by his sister, Julie Greybar, Fairplay, CO., his niece, Tina Darrah, Fairplay, CO. his great-nephews Conrad Darrah, Fairplay, CO and Zach Black, Camden Ark., and their children, Penelope and Adalyn. The family wishes to say a special thank you to staff and friends of Prairie House and Phileos Coffee House. The family is planning a graveside service Monday, October 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worthington. Rest In Peace, Preacher Dave/Beanie.
