Kenneth F. Meady Obituary

Woodbury-

Kenneth F. Meady RPH, OWNER TOWNE APOTHECARY

Kenneth F. Meady, 70, passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle with cancer on Sunday September 19, 2021. Ken was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 3, 1951, to Yvette (Poirer) and Francis Meady. He graduated from St. Ambrose School Grammar School and Kolby High School  where he excelled at playing basketball. He then continued his education at St. John’s University in Queens, NY where he acquired his degree in pharmacy.

In 1978, while working for Rite Aid in Watertown, Ken saw an ad about a new plaza being built in Bethlehem that was looking for a pharmacy to move there. Towne Apothecary opened in May 1979, sharing space with The Painted Pony. After many expansions and two moves, the Apothecary now stands at 95 Main Street South. He gave his all to his business, his customers, and the town. Ken loved what he did,  and he loved helping people. He donated to every fundraiser in Bethlehem and when times were tough, he helped out many people who couldn’t afford their medication. He was full of energy, had a great sense of humor and a huge heart. His kindness and compassion touched all who knew him.

Ken loved sports. He loved to follow St. John’s basketball (“Johnnies”) , the New York Jets and The New York Yankees. He was so proud of his son Todd’s baseball career in high school and then professionally. He made every effort to attend as many games as he could. When Ryan attended the Charland Institute of Karate. Ken drove from Boston to the Carolinas to take the boys to tournaments. When he played football with Watertown High School, Ken was there Friday nights. There was also the year Ken took the  boys to all the Hall of Fame Venues.

Ken loved his family dearly  He leaves behind his wife, Leslie (DuVal), his daughter, Kimberly Behling and her husband, Ed of Oakville, his son, Todd and wife, Danielle of Cape Coral, FL., 4 grandchildren, Ryan Meady, Dominick Meady,  Anthony Meady, Rachel Mauro,  a sister, Joan Howard, his nephews Scott Howard and wife Maureen, Tim Howard and wife Christine, sister in law Evelyn, and nieces Elle and Lawson.  He  leaves behind many special people: all whom he considered family,  Alissa (Parmalee) Young, Caitlin (McQueeney) Chabot, Jessica (McGrath) Kothari,  Matthew DeLuca and Tyler Gendron, and his heartbroken staff at Towne Apothecary, Allison, Dorothy, Maureen, Paul and Vera.

A special thank you to Litchfield County Home Assistance, his three aides who gave him much needed love and care for the past several months: Dadre-Ann, Khadija, and Latitia, and his visiting nurses Nancy and Melissa, who provided comfort and kindness.
