Monroe R. Kelemencky Obituary

Monroe Robert Kelemencky passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Waterbury Hospital, due to covid complications. Monroe was born on July 6, 1930 in West Virginia to Ida and Peter Kelemencky. He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School. He received a master’s degree in business administration, majoring in marketing and accounting, from the University of Bridgeport. He also received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Connecticut, where he was Valedictorian. He was a Lieutenant in The United States Air Force and was a communications officer at the 191st AACS Squadron at Travis Air Force Base.

Monroe worked at Sperry Products in Danbury. At Sperry he worked on many patents and development programs; one being the ultra sound and other medical diagnostic equipment. He was also involved with the NASA Apollo Program. His involvement successfully delivered a man to the moon and back. He was still involved with patents until his death.

Monroe met his beloved wife Elaine Cruden on a blind date. He knew immediately she was the one. They married July 11, 1953. Monroe was also a wonderful but strict father to six wild and crazy children. He and his wife, Elaine, were famous at every picnic they attended for his mother’s stuffed cabbage recipe. He and Elaine continued to make this well into their 80’s. Elaine was his one love and he was there for her in every way.

He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a family man who was always very supportive. He coached little league and followed his family all through dance and music. He was quick witted and a great joke teller.

Monroe is pre-deceased by his parents, Ida and Peter Kelemencky, his sisters Edith, Helen Golias and Grace Sopek, his brothers Paul and Peter Kelemencky, as well as his first grandson, Aaron Kelemencky. He is survived by his wife Elaine, six children, Lynn Patrick of Torrington, Lori Seeley of Woodbury, Lisa Meyer Schirmer (Nick) of Florida, Peter and David Kelemencky of Woodbury and Raymond Kelemencky (Tina) of Texas. He is also survived by his sisters Elizabeth Kelemencky of Bridgeport and Julie Hagan of Middletown, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A  Private Graveside service will be held on November 6th at 11:30 AM at New North Cemetery. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at AOH Hall, 91 Golden Hill St. Waterbury, CT from 1-5 PM.
