Alvin “Pee-Wee” N. Smith, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Alvin “Pee Wee” Smith, Jr. passed away on September 18, 2021, at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. Smith served his country for twenty years while in the Army National Guard and the Reserves. He worked for J.P. Stevens/Forstmann for many years and later worked for the Department of Corrections. Earlier in life, Mr. Smith was affiliated with Dexter Assembly of God, but later became a member of First Independent Methodist Church.

A life-long resident of Dexter, GA, Mr. Smith enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved to spend time with his family, fish, hunt, and listen to bluegrass gospel music. He had a great love for farming and was happiest when riding a tractor.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife, Deborah Kaye Davis and his parents Alvin N. Smith, Sr. and Claurice Williams.

He and Debbie had two children, Michelle Smith Simpson and Stephen “Buck” Smith. In 2015, Mr. Smith married Donna Cartie and his family grew.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Donna F. Smith of Dexter;  daughter, Michelle Smith Simpson (Gary) of Dublin; son, Stephen Smith (Vanessa) of Dexter; brother, Bobby Smith (JoAnn) of Dexter; step-daughter, Jenny Cartie Woodard (Josh) of Dexter; step-sons, Michael Cartie (Tiffany) of Cochran and Danny Cartie (Maggie) of Oro Valley, AZ; grandchildren: Jacob Simpson (Carla), David Woodard, Katie Woodard, and Faith Woodard, all of Dexter, and Abby Cartie, Damon Cartie, and Logan Cartie, all of Oro Valley, AZ; upcoming grandson, Beau Ethan Smith of Dexter; upcoming great-granddaughter, Lydia Mae Simpson, of Dexter, and nephew, Cole Smith of Dexter.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Mt.Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Larry Waldrep and Rev. Brad Sanders will officiate.
