Jerry Rowland, 78, of Watertown, SD passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 in Watertown. Funeral mass for Jerry will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Fox as celebrant. Music will be furnished by the Immaculate Conception Funeral Choir accompanied by Helen Gollnick. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Tuesday, September 21st at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown with Military Honors conducted by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion and SD Army National Guard of Watertown. Casket bearers will be Jerry's grandchildren: Danielle Luther, Tyler Rowland, Jessica Watson, Dylan Menge, Christina Menge, Ryan Bartelt, Derek Miller and Connor Miller. Gerald Lee Rowland was born to John and Marie (Ness) Rowland on November 9, 1942 in Wheaton, MN. He grew up in Sisseton, SD where he attended Sisseton High School. Jerry joined the South Dakota Army National Guard and served with Battery A 2nd Battalion 147th Artillery. He was honorably discharged on January 10, 1969. On November 27, 1964, he married Janice Cleveland in Sisseton and six children were born to this union. Jerry worked at Valley Queen Cheese Factory in Milbank, SD for 11 years. He then worked for Case Sanitation, owned his own sanitation business, Jerry's Sanitation, before selling in the mid 1980's and working for Dependable Sanitation. He also worked for Stromseth Construction before his retirement. Jerry enjoyed country music, flower gardening, collectable horses, collecting diecast cars, and most of all spending time with his family. Jerry is survived by his children, Connie (Dan) Menge of Graceville, MN, Karen (Dennis) Bartelt, Don (Teresa) Rowland and Janelle (Chris) Miller all of Watertown, SD; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his siblings, Marilyn (Jim) Sattler of Eden, SD, Lloyd Rowland of Sisseton SD, Linda (Donald) George of Sisseton, SD, Gary Rowland of Gonzales, LA; his special best friend, Barbara Keener; and also his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob Rowland in 1982, his sons Douglas and Jeffrey on March 27, 1993, and his wife Janice on February 7, 1996.
