Mavis West Macon

Slate Springs---Mavis West Macon, 102, passed away at Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born May 1, 1919, in Calhoun City, she was the daughter of the late James Gordon West and the late Lillie Kimbrell West. Mavis was a graduate of Slate Springs High School, and was a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church in Slate Springs, where she served as church treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the WMU. She was a retired Calhoun County Deputy Clerk, having worked in both the Chancery Clerk’s Office and the Tax Collector’s Office. In 1939, she married Jesse Will Macon, and they spent 58 wonderful years together until his passing in 1997. She loved birdwatching, as well as watching her flowers and plants grow, and she was very skilled at quilting and also needlepoint. Mavis was blessed with a long life here on earth, but God has now called her home, and she has been reunited with all of the family and friends who have gone on before her. She will be missed dearly, but her memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of the ones she leaves behind. Pryor Funeral Home has the honor in serving the Macon family. A Graveside Service celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at 2:00pm at Bethany Cemetery in Slate Springs. Bro. Jim Vance and Bro. Caleb Malone will be officiating, with interment to follow. She leaves behind her son, Larry Macon of Grand Prairie, TX; daughter, Patricia (Ash) Hawks of Bradenton, FL; and son, David (Joy) Macon of Slate Springs, as well as six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie West; husband, Jesse Will Macon; one brother, three sisters, one daughter-in-law, and one great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 167, Calhoun City, MS, 38916. Expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at pryorfuneralhome.com.
