Joan Emily Green

Joan E. Green June 24, 1932– September 15, 2021 Joan E. Green, 89, passed away on September 15, 2021. She was a long-time resident of Lake Bluff and Lake Forest. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Douglas Green. Joan and Doug met at Knox college, where Joan was attending on a French horn scholarship. Their long marriage included an 8-month stay together in Alaska while Doug was serving in the Army, traveling to many destinations abroad and in the U.S., raising 3 children in Lake Bluff, and attending the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest. Family life included annual summer vacations with various activities such as hiking in the mountains, visiting historic sites, exploring new cities, canoeing, swimming and singing lots of songs in the long car rides, led by Joan. Joan enjoyed working in various positions throughout the years, including as secretary to the post surgeon while in Alaska, as a medical laboratory technician at St. Luke Hospital, Highland Park Hospital and Abbott Laboratories, and in the office for a local doctor. The medical field was of particular interest to Joan. She was also involved in community organizations through the years, including Lake Bluff Women’s Club. She is survived by her children Robert (Gail) Green, Carolyn (Carl) James and James (Carla) Green. She was a loving grandmother to Eric Green (Kelly Benge), Laura (Tom) Ledwidge, Chloe Green, and Kristin, Jackie and Scott James. She was delighted to have become a great-grandmother to Harper Ledwidge. She was loved and will be missed by all. A visitation will be held at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave. Lake Forest, IL. Wednesday September 22nd at 10:00 am, with a memorial service directly following at 11:00.
