C. Larry Ward Obituary

Charles Larry Ward, 80, of Spartanburg, SC passed into the presence of our Lord on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center-Mary Black Campus. Born April 2, 1941 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William Eugene and Nellie Mae Parks Ward.

A US Army veteran, Mr. Ward was retired from Spartanburg County Purchasing Department after 30 years of service. He was a 1959 Spartanburg High School graduate and later graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College.

Larry was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church. He had a special passion for his four grandchildren (his Pride and Joy). He greatly enjoyed attending The Masters and supporting the football programs of Spartanburg High School Vikings, The Clemson Tigers, and The North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Fortenberry Ward, his sons, Larry Scott Ward (Sharon) of Boiling Springs, SC and William Todd Ward (Dee Dee) of Zebulon, NC, his four grandchildren, Kelli Ward, Allyson Ward, Hunter Ward, and Victoria Ward, his sister, Carolyn Ward Smith of Spartanburg, SC. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Shirley Ann Ward, Donald Eugene “Buddy” Ward, and William Earl Ward.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, September 20, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in the chapel. Dr. Todd Black will conduct the service with Miss Allyson Ward and Mr. William Todd Ward as Eulogists. Burial with Military Rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

The family would like to give special thanks and love to Larry’s niece, Deborah Martin-Dean, for the tender care shown to Larry in his final days. Additional thanks to the staff at Spartanburg Medical Center-Mary Black Campus who served Larry with love and dignity.
