He was born December 20, 1958 in Worthington, MN to Wesley and Barbara Baumgard. He was raised in Brewster, MN, and graduated from Brewster High School in 1977. After high school he attended Mankato Tech for 2 years, and then began working at the Rock County Highway Department - where he worked for 39 years. Steve married Rosalia Hernandez on June 15, 1985 in Brewster, MN and became the father of 3 children; Linda, Tom and Kyle. In June of 1985 the family moved to Luverne, MN. Steve was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, MN, where he became an active usher and served as a volunteer on the Little Lambs Board. His interests were spending time with his kids, attending his grandkids sports activities, and spending time with his family. His hobbies include going to the library, reading newspapers and catching up on sports. Steve is survived by his long life partner Rosalia Baumgard and his 3 children; Linda Burg of Sioux Falls, SD, Tom Burg of Mankato, MN and Kyle (Corey) Aanenson of White Bear Lake, MN; as well as 6 grandchildren, Monique, Landon, Maiah Aanenson and Elijah, Matilda and Charlotte Burg. Siblings are Debra Baumgard of Lakewood, CO, David Baumgard of Mahtomedi, MN, Keith Baumgard of Minneota, MN and Craig Baumgard of North Mankato, MN. Nieces and nephews include Sean, Colin, Sierra and Bria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Barbara Baumgard. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, MN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, MN, with Rev. Dr. Phil Booe officiating. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, MN. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
