Funeral services for Howard Swinson, age 90, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 19, 2021, in White Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Yzenski officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Swinson was born June 23, 1931, in Glenwood, Georgia. He was a former welding teacher at West Laurens High School and retired from Laurens County Board of Commissioners Public Works Department. He was a member of White Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Whiteford Masonic Lodge #101 in Alamo. He was also the founder and promoter for the Piney Woods Lake Bluegrass Festival for 30 years. Mr. Swinson enjoyed music, fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. He was dedicated to maintaining his campground and making his camping friends feel like family. In addition, he was actively involved in his church and for many years served as the Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Herman and Mary Lou Johnson Swinson, siblings, Robert Swinson, Herbert Swinson, Evelyn Smith, and SaraLu Couey, and his son-in-law, Billy Wood. Mr. Swinson passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Iris Annette Moore Swinson of Glenwood, his children, Charles Howard Swinson (Terry), Wanda Swinson Wood, Edwin Dana Swinson, and Larry Wayne Swinson (Sheila Payne), all of Glenwood, grandchildren, Tara Renee Veal (Jason), Wendy Wood Baggett (Gabe Ramsey), Patrick Charles Swinson (Jamie), Nathan Howard Wood (Sandy), Megan Marie Bennett, Justin Edwin Swinson, Brandon Wayne Swinson, Heather Dawn Swinson, and Blake Tyler Swinson, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Nathan Howard Wood, Patrick Charles Swinson, Brandon Wayne Swinson, Justin Edwin Swinson, Blake Tyler Swinson, Hunter Dewayne Veal, and Peyton John Veal. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of White Springs Baptist Church.
