Nellie Manders Obituary

CORDELE – Funeral services for Nellie Bundrick Manders will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Arabi Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour before the service. Please remember observe the Covid pandemic protocols. Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister Nellie Ruth Bundrick Manders transitioned to her new home in Heaven on September 15, 2021, three days after her 85th birthday. Nellie was a long-time resident of Wenona, Georgia known for her skills as a seamstress, master gardener, and great Southern cook. As a widow, Nellie was known by family and friends to be a tough, independent woman. She retired from WalMart in her late 70s and cared for her own home and garden for as long as her health permitted. Her grandchildren treasure memories of their summer weeks at “Granny’s house.” They recall her always being larger than life in presence and personality, letting them do anything they wanted, and teaching them many skills they will carry for a lifetime. She made the best biscuits and red velvet cake in the world. An avid traveler, Nellie fulfilled her bucket list with her sister Margaret by her side – including the Grand Canyon, Amish Country, Niagara Falls, Yosemite, and most recently the Redwood Forest. Nellie was one of 12 siblings. She greatly valued time with family, hosting countless fish fries, family dinners, and family reunions. Nellie was a member of Wenona Baptist Church. She often quoted the Serenity Prayer, and lived by it daily – “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Nellie is survived by her four children Nell (Wayne) Stephens, Ricky (Pat) Manders, Elaine (David) Adkins, and Bobby (Teresa) Manders, 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her brothers Eli, Daniel, and Edward Bundrick; and her sisters Annette Lowry, Sarah Hobbs, and Margaret Martin. She is now reunited with her husband Alvin; granddaughter Amy; brothers DJ, Punch, George, and Webster; and sister Agnes. Online condolences may be left at www.hughesandwright.com. Hughes & Wright Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with these arrangements.
