Gene passed away September 13th, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He fought every day until the very end. He lived a wonderful life that ended too soon.

     Gene was born in Waverly, NY on 512 Waverly St and weighed 5 lbs 12oz when he was born. He grew up loving to play sports and was always outdoors with his cousins. Gene attended Waverly High School and       graduated with a Regents Degree in 1975. He worked with his dad at ACME Markets before he moved to Arizona. He loved his Roadrunner, Rock n Roll and Double Cheese Whammys!

     Gene moved to Arizona in 1980 to start his life in warmer weather, but was greeted to a hundred year flood when arriving in Phoenix. He stayed and found a job at Safeway working for several locations building close relationships with his coworkers and thousands of customers. He settled at his main store in Sun City West on Camino Del Sol. 

     Gene met Janice Jacobson in 1984 and they were married in 1988 after he proposed at Giants Stadium the year before. Gene and Janice went to many sporting events around the nation in their years of marriage following all their sports teams.

     Justin Cushing was born in 1993. Justin and his dad enjoyed countless concerts, movies and sports. Gene had coached many of Justin's teams throughout his school years and cheered him on at all his cross country events.

     Gene enjoyed working several other jobs in the last 20 years including Diamondbacks, Suns and Arizona Federal Theatre. Gene loved going to sporting events and concerts with friends and family.

     Gene is predeceased by his parents Gloria and Erwin Cushing. He is survived by his brother, Shaun Cushing, sister and brother-in-law, Lew and Gloria Mattison, and son, Justin Cushing, including Janice Cushing and many cousins.
