Dennis Matthews
<p>Dennis P. Matthews, of Wayne PA, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2021. Dennis was born on April 13, 1947 to Harry and Dolores (nee Manion) Matthews and grew up in Narberth with his two brothers and two sisters. He was predeceased by his brother, William Matthews (and his wife Sidney) as well as his sister, Sheila Bartlett (and her husband Joseph). Dennis cherished his family and remained close friends with his older brother, Gerry Matthews and younger sister, Maureen Cromer (and her husband Terry) throughout his life. His close family bonds formed a strong foundation for the love and kindness he shared with others.</p> <p>Dennis loved to tell the story of meeting the love of his life, Kathy (nee Pooler) at a college mixer when he attended St Joseph’s University. They married in April of 1970 and are survived by their two sons, Kevin and Brian. They moved their young family to Wayne in 1975 and created a life full of friends, family, kindness and love. Kathy passed away in 2001 and Dennis has never stopped loving her with all his heart. His son Kevin married Carolyn (nee Buck) and Dennis became the most devoted and energetic grandfather to Emily, Timothy and Dylan.</p> <p>As a lifelong teacher (from Montessori school through software analytics), Dennis showed intelligence, patience and understanding. Friends and family will never forget his humor, his puns, and his wit. All of those traits were evident to those who knew him – especially his three grandchildren. Upon retirement, Dennis spent time travelling, taking pictures, playing music and volunteering at Chanticleer Gardens, where his love of nature shined. Through all of the relationships he formed, his creativity, his spirit and his love of life will endure.</p> <p>Dennis was a teacher, photographer, musician, artist, woodworker, scuba diver, gardener, father, brother, grandfather,... truly a Renaissance man. Above all, he was a beautiful soul.</p> <p>Relatives and friends are invited to join in the Celebration of Life Services which begins with visitation with family at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 23,2021 at The Anthony Wayne House, 2049 Waynesborough Road, Paoli, PA 19301, followed by a sharing of memories/stories at 11:45 AM and then lunch at 12:30 PM.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dennis and his beloved wife Kathy, to Living Beyond Breast Cancer <a href="http://www.lbbc.org/how-you-can-help/donate">http://www.lbbc.org/how-you-can-help/donate</a> would be appreciated.</p>April 13, 1947 - September 12, 202104/13/194709/12/2021
