Sally Ann (Facto) Hanes of Waukee, Iowa passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at
Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa on September 13th, 2021 at the age of 63.
Sally was born in Ames, Iowa to Joseph and Margaret "Jane" (Lowry) Facto on October 5th,
1957. She attended Des Moines Public Schools, graduating from Hoover High School in 1975.
On October 11,1975, Sally married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Dean Hanes. After
briefly moving to Colorado, Denny and Sally moved back to Iowa settling in Waukee, where they
raised their three children. Sally enjoyed being a homemaker as well as working at Baker’s
Cafeteria, owning Hanes Foodservice that served Plymouth Place in Des Moines, IA, feeding
children at Apple Tree Children’s Center, and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage as a Loan
Underwriter, where she retired from due to her long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Sally was
part of the “Black Cat Club” at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Additionally, Sally enjoyed
playing the piano, singing, sewing, painting, drawing and baking.
She is survived by her children, Matthew Hanes (John Williams) of Chicago, IL, Sarah Mentele
(Ryan) of Grimes, IA, and Becky Perdue (Jim) of Waukee, IA; sister, Barbara Young (Debbie
Drozdov) of Baton Rouge, LA; brothers, Jay Facto (Pat Tallman) of Urbandale, IA and Tim
Facto (Vicki) of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law, Doug Hanes (Marcia) of Aurora, CO; nieces and
nephews, Jennifer Crandell (Jim Russell) of Urbandale, IA, Tony Montinguise of Urbandale, IA,
Christopher Montinguise of Urbandale, IA, Jon Hanes (Sarah) of Aurora, CO, and Amanda
McBee (Ted) of Gunnison, CO; grandchildren, Evalyn, Conlin, Alana, and Harper Mentele, and
Jordan and Chey Perdue.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Hanes; parents, Joseph and Jane Facto;
parents-in-law, Joseph and Norma Hanes; brother-in-law, Richard and his wife, Diane Hanes;
and sister-in-law, Diana and her husband, Mike Montinguise.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 18th, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., with a
memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish 8201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, IA.
