Loving Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Friend and Volunteer Firefighter

David Michaud, 53, of Prospect died peacefully at home, while surrounded by the love of his family, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 after a heroic battle of 36 years with cancer.  He was the loving husband and best friend of Cher (Esposito) Michaud and father of David, Arlena and Ethan.  Dave was born in Hartford on May 3, 1968, a proud son of Bryant T. Michaud and Irene (Molaver) Michaud.

Dave grew up in Waterbury, was educated in the Waterbury School System and went on to earn a Master’s of Science degree from the University of New Haven.  He worked for over 20 years in the Department of Corrections, retiring as a counselor. Most recently he worked in Student Financial Services at The University of Bridgeport and The University of Hartford. He was a longtime member of The One Hundred Club and the Local 387 of AFSME.

For the past 24 years, Dave has been a dedicated firefighter, serving in many capacities for the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect.  Many fond memories were made of riding in parades in the antique ladder truck, family picnics, and the Fireman’s Ball to name a few.  Dave’s proudest moment with the department by far, was watching Cadet Captain Arlena Michaud and Cadet Lieutenant Ethan Michaud be named to their new ranks.

If you knew Dave, you loved him.   He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, pitch in his blood, sweat, and tears to all his firefighter brethren and always, always be there for his family.  Being a father was his most cherished role in life.  Despite battling cancer for the past three decades, Dave powered on to coach soccer and baseball.  He was there to support his children in whatever way possible, attending games, competitions and recitals, and teaching them all the tools for life he felt they would need.  Dave’s motto in life was Livin’ the Dream.  He and his wife, Cher, have devoted their lives living each day to the fullest possible extent.  Although his time on earth was too short, Dave leaves his love deep and strong in the hearts of his family and friends.

Left to honor Dave’s life, love, and legacy are his wife, Cher, and children; David R., Ethan and Arlena, his parents Bryant and Irene Michaud of New Hampshire, his sister Traci Lederer also of New Hampshire, his father-in-law Louis Esposito, and his niece Brianna Esposito, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and several friends who were like family.  Dave was predeceased by his mother-in-law Sandra Esposito and brother-in-law Louis Esposito.

A Memorial Service with Firefighter Honor Guard and Department of Corrections Honor Guard will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  Calling hours will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  A Procession of Honor will take place immediately following the services, burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.  For the health and safety of all who attend, it is respectfully requested that all visitors please wear your mask or appropriate facial covering while in the funeral home.

Dave’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering and his nurses Fran and Susan for their compassionate care throughout Dave’s illness and all their friends and family for their never-ending support over the years.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michaud Children Scholarship Fund through Webster Bank, Prospect Branch
