Obituary
In the early morning hours of September 12th, 2021, Coreeta Bessie Rodriguez (Minor) made her journey to her heavenly home. She was born on October 14th, 1936, in Sayre, Oklahoma. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Lee Bessie Fuller. To all her nieces and nephews, she was simply “Aint Edie.”
Anyone who was blessed to know her can tell you that she loved the Lord. Coreeta raised her voice to Him in song and could be heard singing while doing even the most trivial of tasks. She sang in the kitchen, while driving, and even grocery shopping. She started singing when she was three with her older sister, Lewtine, on her father’s gospel radio show in 1940. She shared her Christian faith no matter where or with whom. It is
without any doubt that she is singing for Him even now. “I have good news,” she would sing, “Jesus is coming.” She never lost the joy in her salvation.
Coreeta’s true passion was in the care of others, whether it was her beloved daughter, Tina Louise, or complete strangers. She graduated from Poly Technic High School in 1954. She then enrolled at the St. Joseph School of Nursing, graduating in 1958. After which she received an advanced degree in nursing in 1962 from Texas Christian University with a full scholarship
.
She went on to be the night supervisor at St. Joseph and the emergency room manager at Baylor All Saints. To this day, people that were under her tutelage and guidance will tell you that there has been no one they have met since that worked with her compassion, consideration, and dedication. Coreeta did it all as a nurse in the medical field, but her most favorite emphasis was psychiatric nursing and the care people needed for alcohol and drug addiction at Billy Gregory Pine Street Rehabilitation Center and the Presbyterian Night Shelter.
She has been preceded to eternity by her parents, Lewis Benson Minor and Christine Martine Fuller, her younger sister, Marcella Ruth Smith, and her former husband, Rodolpho Rodriguez. She is with them now.
Though Coreeta is not here with us anymore, she is in the presence of our savior. Earthly physical death is only an end to the trials and tribulations of the flesh. It is also the beginning of the longest and most joyful journey: everlasting life with Jesus.
There is no need to mourn her passing, but to cherish and celebrate her life, and the time we had with her, being thankful for the knowledge that we will see her again.
And, lastly, as she would tell you herself, remember to take your vitamins.
