Nadine L. Brown Obituary

Nadine Louisa Rhone-Brown, 81, departed this life on September 13, 2021. On February 5, 1940, she was born in Central Village, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Walter Ernest Rhone and Leona Florence Green-Rhone. She was married to the late Eugenie I. Brown. Nadine graduated from Plainfield High School in 1957. Upon graduating high school, she pursued a career in the Health Field, where she worked at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for three years. Nadine advanced in her field where she worked at the Norwich State Hospital for 15 years; upon the closing of the State Hospital, Nadine transferred to Southeastern Mental Health Authority, where she worked as a Case Manager for eight years. She retired from state service after 28 years in July 2000. Nadine was a long-time member of Shiloh New London Church, under the pastoral leadership of the +Rev. Dr. Benjamin K. Watts, where she frequently expressed her love for her Pastor Bishop Benjamin K. Watts, his wife, Lady Cynthia Watts, and their children. She was a member of the Women of Excellence Ministry and treasured the fellowship. Nadine enjoyed traveling to Pennsylvania where she enjoyed the productions at the Sight and Sound Theater; she especially enjoyed exploring the ventures at sea, on several of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships, where she marveled at God’s amazing creations in the Bahamas, Bermuda, St. Martin, St. Thomas, Mexico, and Barbados. Nadine spent time weekly having lunch with friends. In addition, she was an avid shopper and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Nadine spoke fondly of her three caring and devoted sons. She would recall how a special acquaintance, Ms. Pina, complimented her on how she had three wonderful sons. Nadine replied, “Yes. I’m lucky.” Ms. Pina told her in a loving way, “you’re not lucky; you’re blessed.” From that moment, Nadine realized that God blessed her with three wonderful “boys.” Anytime someone complimented her on her sons, her response would always be, “Thank you, I’m blessed.” Nadine was predeceased by her brother, Richard Rhone; and is survived by her three sons: Eugene I. Brown, Jr., Michael L. Brown, Stephen E. Brown, daughters-in-law, granddaughters: Latresha Brown, Alexandria C. Brown, Mia N. Brown, great-grandchildren: A’Narie, Kaisen, Kali, and Zoey, step-granddaughter, Annie, step-grandson, Joey, step great-granddaughters: Skylar and Ellie, step great-grandson, Jackson, adopted daughters, Rimmy Speedwell and Tarishia M. Martin, and a host of other relatives and friends.
