Armando Salazar Obituary

Armando Salazar – a coach to many and a friend to all – passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 12, 2021, in Bremen, Indiana. He was 60. Armando was born on November 1, 1960, in Weslaco, TX to Manuel and Raquel Salazar. The fourth of nine children, Armando, and his siblings – Rosalinda, Raquel, Jesse, Felix, Randy, Vivian, Albert, and Jay – spent their early days playing together and getting each other into trouble on King Road in Plymouth. They continued to grow together over the years, each devoted to one another in their own special way. The amount of love, laughter, tears, heartache, and fun Armando shared with his brothers and sisters will never be forgotten, and their bond will forever remain unbreakable. Armando graduated from Plymouth High School in 1978 and married Jan Schroeder (Salazar) in June 1981. They had two loving children, Derek and Britni, and spent the next 22 years together. During this time, Armando found his true calling in coaching his kids’ sporting events. “Coach Salazar” as he was known to almost everyone, spent years coaching junior league football, t-ball, C-league baseball, and high school basketball. Through his coaching, Armando passed along valuable life and leadership lessons that many of his former athletes still refer to today. Armando’s mantra was to be the first one there and the last to leave. He was never late to a game, never missed practice, and was a steady, guiding force for so many, including his own kids. A skilled fisherman, Armando was known for his legendary fish fry. He spent many hours on the local lakes and enjoyed sharing his bluegill with many of his friends and neighbors. Some of his happiest times were spent feeding others, boating, and swapping stories with his fishing buddies. After moving from Plymouth to Bremen, he created a new community of friends through his marriage to Laurel Salazar, their church, The Vineyard in Mishawaka, and neighbors. Armando is survived by his children, Derek (Amanda) Salazar of Northfield, MN, Britni (Varun) Sehgal of Chicago, IL; his grandson, Nash of Chicago, IL; and his siblings, Rosalinda (Kevin) Ervin of OH; Raquel (Robert) Matamoros of TX; Jesse (Sandy), IN; Felix (Nikki), IN; Randy (Sue), IN; Vivian (Chad), IN; Albert (Shelly), IN; and Jay, IN. Armando never knew a stranger. He believed in making people feel good, giving back whenever he could, and being a good friend. His kind heart, generous personality, and never-ending charm will be forever missed.
