Elinor L. Hale Obituary

Loving mother and grandmother, Elinor L. Hale passed away peacefully at age 88 on September 13, 2021. Elinor was a longtime resident of Lake View, NY along with her late husband of 49 years, Edward J. Hale. She was born in Marcy, New York to the late Walter L. and Laura A. (Gates) Smith and preceded in death by her brothers Everett and Wayne Smith. Elinor was a devoted mother and grandmother first and foremost who also enjoyed providing care to other neighborhood children. Affectionately known as Nana or Missy Hale, little ones could always count on homemade cookies, books, games and most importantly, her undivided attention. As they grew, she could be found cheering them on at games, musical performances and other activities. During her 45 years in Lake View, Elinor also volunteered for many community events and was an active member of the Lake View Congregational Church. An avid walker, Elinor especially loved taking walks with her dear friend Laura. She found beauty everywhere and would often collect wild flowers and fall leaves on her walks. She also travelled the U.S. extensively to see new sites or visit family and friends. Among her favorite adventures was a cross-country road trip to California with her husband Ed and his sister Anna. She is survived by a daughter: Carol O’Dea of Chicago, IL., 2 sons: David (Alice) Hale of Warsaw, Thomas (Janice) Hale of San Diego, CA., 2 sisters: Norma Christiansen of Marcy, Ellen (Edgar) Kepfer of Warsaw, 7 grandchildren: Andrew (Lydia) Hale, Laura (Patrick) Smithgall, Brian (Mai) Hale, Maggie (Jesse) Clark, Daniel (Pamela) O’Dea, James (Courtney) O’Dea and Elijah Hale, 5 great grandchildren: Felix, Peter, Katherine, Khai and Aurora, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be sadly missed by her loving “family” at The Cloisters in Warsaw, NY where she has lived since 2006. Elinor never wanted to be the center of attention, so her graveside service will be private and held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg. In lieu of flowers, friends and family wishing to honor Elinor are invited to make memorial contributions to their favorite charity or donate to Suzanne’s Comfort Home in Perry, NY https://www.suzannescch.com/donations-funding Arrangements completed by Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 N.
