Cheryl Partridge Van Deusen Obituary

Cheryl Van Deusen (nee Partridge) died on Monday, September 13, 2021. She spent her last night doing what she loved- watching the Yankee game with her soulmate of over 50 years, her husband David. A longtime Yankees fan, Cheryl was disappointed in the outcome but saw promise in the rookie pitcher. Cheryl Van Deusen’s body finally gave in after two years of courageous struggle. But Cheryl’s spirit lives on in your favorite Beatles’ song; in the fresh seagull prints on the wet sands of Long Beach Island; and on the perfect greens and blues of Yankee Stadium on opening day. Disease may have taken her body, but Cheryl’s spirit endures. Cheryl was a genuine child of her age- she screamed in the cacophony of Shea Stadium to “Twist and Shout”, she got soaked and muddy in Max Yasgur’s Field, she lived on Beacon Hill and the Haight. Cheryl was a lifetime mentor and best friend to her younger sister. Cheryl was Earth Mother to us all and a very human mother to her son, David. She was the cool aunt and the indulgent grandmother. Cheryl was style and grace and above all wit. She was a fierce debater but always appreciated life’s absurdities. She could hobble the haughty and high-minded, but she saw good in people where others could not. Cheryl’s spirit will live on because it is the very best part of us. Cheryl Van Deusen has played her last game in this league. She has made it to the Show where her star will surely shine. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years David, her beloved family- son David Jr, her grandchildren Freya and William, and another grandchild to be born in November; her sister Mary, brother-in-law Patrick and their three children Sarah, Savannah and Madison. All who knew Cheryl adored her. A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 12-3pm at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack, with a gathering of friends and family to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Grassroot Givers in Cheryl’s name is requested (www.grassrootgivers.org).
